Kiwanis South Builds:

Lasting friendships and fellowship...often lacking in today's busy world.

Broader knowledge...by providing speakers on interesting subjects.

Community involvement...through service opportunities and better understanding of its problems.

Exchange of ideas...on a wide range of topics.

Leadership skills...serving the club in positions of responsibility.

Better citizenship...with knowledge that the effort of each individual really counts.

What Kiwanis South offers you:

Insight into issues affecting Lee County and South Fort Myers.

Our weekly club programs offer members an insider's look at our community from the people who make the news in education, the justice system, county government, the arts, education and more.

An opportunity to expand business & professional networking.

Kiwanis South meetings offer a marketplace of ideas and a social setting where members can interact with peers of diverse business and professional backgrounds.

An arena in which to develop and use your leadership skills.

Our Kiwanians can volunteer for any of our many projects which they find appealing and which fit their schedule.  Often they have a chance to try things they don't do every day.  Besides contributing to the quality of community life, our members have an opportunity to develop and use skills that then can be applied to home and work.

Current Projects:

Several members are  mentoring at Cypress Lake Middle School.

About Kiwanis International:

Kiwanis International is a civic organization with over 300,000 members comprising some 8,000 clubs in 83 countries. Together, our members have donated in excess of $70 million to charitable causes and have contributed over 7 million volunteer hours of service to the community.

The six permanent objectives of Kiwanis International were approved at the 1918 Convention in Providence, RI, and have not changed through the succeeding years. They are:

1. To give primacy to the human and spiritual rather than to the material values of life.

2. To encourage the daily living of the Golden Rule in all human relationships.

3. To promote the adoption and the application of higher social, business, and professional standards.

4. To develop, by precept and example, a more intelligent, aggressive, and serviceable citizenship.

5. To provide, through Kiwanis Clubs, a practical means to form enduring friendships, to render altruistic service, and to build better communities.

6. To cooperate in creating and maintaining that sound public opinion and high idealism which make possible the increase of righteousness, justice, patriotism, and goodwill.

Young Children Priority One

Young Children Priority One is a major focus of Kiwanis International. The emphasis is on the care and well being of children from birth to age 5. Kiwanis sponsors community activities and fundraising events on behalf of young children. The Fort Myers South Kiwanis Club has sponsored book giveaways at Hunter Park in Pine Manor, has worked to clean up and landscape the park, and has worked with the Children's Service Council on the Shots for Tots Program to provide free immunization for all Lee County children.

Worldwide Service Project

The Kiwanis Club of Fort Myers South is a proud participant in the Kiwanis International Worldwide Service Project. Kiwanis, in partnership with the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), is working to eliminate the world's leading preventable cause of mental retardation, iodine deficiency disorder. More than 1.5 billion people throughout the world are currently at risk for this affliction, which in addition to mental retardation can result in stillbirths, cretinism, goiters, and physical disability. Thus far, Kiwanis has raised over $15 million towards an overall goal of $75 million to eliminate this disorder from the planet. For more information, please see the Iodine Deficiency Disorders  information page on the Kiwanis International homepage.
